It is very easy to talk about creativity and to say that someone is or isn’t creative but what makes us one or the other? Well, to be able to answer that question one has to ask himself what is being smart and what is intelligence. It is impossible for now to measure intelligence but somehow, we instinctively know when someone is smart.
Well, intelligence definitely starts with knowing a lot, but it’s not enough. According to some there are 9 main types of intelligence among which linguistic, logical, intra and interpersonal. To be considered intelligent one should have them all developed, they should be able to think logically but also express themselves correctly and be able to communicate effectively so just knowing a lot of facts is far from enough. We all know someone who knows a lot, but we can’t consider smart. Well, he has probably only spent their time learning facts without processing and understanding them.
This is where the creative part comes in strong. A creative may has very well developed interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence to be able to express themselves. On top of that they are very good at using the different parts of their brain, the different types of intelligence to perform a single task more effectively. A creative is able to mix and match different bits of information that can be difficult for someone who is not. This ability to process and apply information differently usually means that they can even see the world in a different way, that their problem-solving skills are just different.
There’s an understanding that creatives are not logical because they are too emotional. Well, I don’t fully agree with that. In my opinion, a creative’s way of thinking and logic are just different than those who are considered more analytical.
What creatives find logical can be just the opposite for those who are not quite as creative and the other way around.
